With the usual summer slowdown in executive search many firms are anxiously awaiting the traditional up-tick we experience in the Fall. With the current economic conditions many firms are unsure of what to expect this year. Some firms have had to cut staff and resources in advance of what they predict will be a slow return.

Our firm has laid off about 20% of staff and has shifted office space to a shared environment, forcing many workers to operate from home. I view this as a good thing for the environment, but sad for those terminated. Unfortunately this isn't my first experience and like most firms I expect we'll ramp up again when the market conditions improve. Sadly, we'll have to go through this again when the market dips in the next cycle.
I've decided to leave our firm and go out on my own. SO far it's working fine because my firm has committed to use me for at least six months as an independent.
